Rebel Pine Lighter
Rebel Pine Lighter
A pocket sized reminder to live wild and free, slow and intentional… like a rebel pine.
Each time I make the Rebel Pine tags I freehand cut each one with my jewelers saw. I like them to be different each time, instead of perfect and uniform. They aren’t necessarily a specific type of pine tree, but could be one of many different types.
I call them Rebel Pines because they are wild, and unruly looking… which is how they grow in nature, imperfect in shape, and size. They grow tall, and wide, over many years. They do it without hurry. They live slowly, and steadily… which is also an act of rebellion in a world that tells us to hustle for our lives, not even to thrive, but to simply survive. The life of a rebellious pine is the life I aspire to live.
I put a little extra patina on this batch of lighters, they all take the patina on differently so each one is one of a kind. Brass already develops a beautiful patina on its own with time and use, and the patina I put on it will only add to the unique beauty it will develop over its life with you. The patina is a unique blue/black/purple, almost like an oil slick where you notice it differently depending on the light.
+ Brand new 1941 replica brass zippo lighter
+ Reclaimed sterling silver tag with freehand cut Rebel Pine tree soldered to zippo
+ Brushed and oxidized sterling silver and brass
*** Brass will naturally tarnish with regular wear, developing a beautiful patina over time. Sterling silver does the opposite, the more you wear it the less it will tarnish, or need polished. Regular wear will keep the silver on your new lighter looking bright and shiny, while the brass darkens, and a unique contrast takes shape between the two metals.
